“Judge not lest ye be judged”

“Judge not lest ye be judged”

Though I was raised Jewish, I still learned this one and it stays with me. Seems like some good solid advice for the “right” way to live. Still, I find myself doing exactly the opposite all too frequently. Why is that?

Humans say one thing and then do the other all the time. We have our ideals, how we think things should be. But then we have the reality. How things are. Human behavior is far from our ideals, sadly, much of the time.

Well, I have come to think that we need to think about another adage to “To err is Humane; to Forgive, Divine”. Okay that one is not Jesus. It’s actually Alexander Pope, an 18th century English poet. While it may not have the weight of a “god” behind it, I think we can agree it’s another good one. I don’t think most of us are striving to live a “divine life”, but at the end of the day, we want to be “judged” as having been a  good human being.

So we can put these two together and we get “Go ahead and “judge” but be sure to forgive yourself later.
